Lol. I am not a Trump supporter in the slightest. I almost always vote for Democratic candidates (although I am a registered Independent).

I would venture to guess that I know as much about the history of gun rights (and racist gun control) as anyone on this forum considering it is a pet interest of mine and my decade + involvement in politics and lobbying for work.

Normally I would leave this grey, but in case you actually don’t know, you could definitely own artillery then and even now.

Honest question, what reaction would you expect to see then if it was a large black group? That line is always thrown about so casually with nothing to back it up. The pro-gun people would support them. Maybe establishment Republicans wouldn’t? Of course, racist white people would be upset, but they’re upset any time

Welcome to the patronage system. It sucks.

Yup, I know that.

People may have been scared about the first protest, but that is only due to media fear mongering needlessly. Remember, those are the same people who said “if a black man did this, he’d be shot on sight” and...well, here we see that’s not true either.

Why guess when you could look?

This is the most balanced gun story that I’ve ever seen on The Root so kudos.

The right to self-defense (and owning a gun) is an inherent right of man and not dependent on any Constitution.

I see that. I guess I just see the gun more as a prop than a real threat. Similar to the guillotine at recent French protests. Given history, were they really on the streets to behead the elites or did they just want a physical manifestation of that resistance symbol? In the same way, pro-gun American’s use the prop

I agree that you don’t need to run around shoving guns in peoples’ faces, but I think that behavior has become much more common as the calls for gun control and confiscation have grown. If they don’t protest and make noise then there is no way to have a voice in the debate.

Yes, if only this Chinese spyware could introduce more censorship into the American market than China already does.

I appreciate your response and will continue to ruminate about the three articles you shared. My initial observation is that your own sources paint slavery as only one factor in the argument over the language in the Second Amendment/Founders intent rather than the sole (or even main) reason.

I too grew up in the South and am always interested in trying to learn more about a contentious issue.

Prayers for you both. I obviously don’t know the situation, but my sister had pretty serious anxiety issues growing up and exercise and keeping a routine schedule were the best things (other than discussing potential stressors) that she discovered for helping with it. I know both of those can be difficult to come by

In North Carolina, at least, both sides still do it. Wish it were more common.

I like the new Dua Lipa album Future Nostalgia more than I’d like to admit. Not really a pop music person usually.

Great song, but always makes me think of the Family Guy skit:

All the more reason for the Natives to be armed. Cliven Bundy had issue with the federal government over land rights too. His ragtag group was afforded a little more respect at the negotiating table.
