Yay! I loved those two episodes and still think they're some strongest episodes in the entire run so far (they're also the best plotted 2-parter in the RTD era). Of course, I still prefer Eccleston as the Doctor, so I'm a bit biased.

Your final comparison with the Silurian two-parter is precisely one of the reasons why I didn't like this episode. I felt like we'd seen this setup before there, with the Doctor being put into the role of arbiter between two groups that had a preferred inclination for conflict to go after their shared self-interest.

I think there has been speculation that book 3 is going to be separated into 2 seasons, and probably some sort of combining of books 4 & 5 since they're largely going to run concurrently.

There is a slightly more dramatic scene with Dany's immunity to fire later on. I don't remember it being this early, but I really don't mind the gentle buildup to it. It saves on having to dump a whole bunch of exposition, or having a singular moment that makes people wonder "How did that happen?"
