We need to start valuing quality over quantity when it comes to publishing. It’s sad the state of academia today.

The community’s failure to replicate studies is a big part of this problem, too.

This is my favorite sketch comedy show! So glad it’s back. Because I take sketch comedy very seriously.

I agree. Tbh I’d be much more interested in a show about a woman who’s, you know, real. Not necessarily someone awful that hates everything about herself.

This show is really good, and I don’/t think she’s unlikeable. I loved how the arc of the story helped you understand her better.

Or be a symptom thereof? Not sure since I’m more of a perseveration-over-every-last-potentially-self-defeating-detail-kind-of-girl.

She needs to know!

Been reading this over the Summer, about half way through, it’s an amazing read and the depth of the story just barely seems to have been scratched so far.

I really don’t think it’s abelist to celebrate the athletic achievements of a group of women as a metaphor for women’s advancements. We have to be able to celebrate all different kinds of women. And, as rebeccacunningham noted by posting that ridiculous SNL song about not being able to write a song for all women

#NotAllMetaphors

The video is well-intentioned, but the metaphor of jumping hurdles, not to mention the doubling down on athletic prowess, seems especially ableist in this context.

Jezebel: Making perfect the enemy of good since 2008.

Yeah, I don’t get Rachel’s outrage. Someone put out a positive message, yet she basically wrote an article condemning that message.

I’m torn on this one because of course you’re right. It is ableist and it can be hurtful. On the other hand...it’s just a metaphor. No one is saying if you can’t literally jump hurdles like a 1960s Olympian you can’t overcome obstacles. The audience that this video is aimed towards--the audience who likes Sia and

“The video is well-intentioned, but the metaphor of jumping hurdles, not to mention the doubling down on athletic prowess, seems especially ableist in this context.”

Then what was her point because she brought it up not once, not twice, but three times as if it were the salient point to take from this tragedy?

Betty Shelby is nothing but a low-life thug. Look at her record! She smokes marijuana and has been cited for domestic violence. Was only a matter of time when something like this would happen. Get her off the streets!

Yeah I don’t think that last line is enough. The headline – and essentially the whole post – is pretty much stirring shit like, “smile pretty, honey.”

Modern dogs really did evolve for this. They exist as they do because they were domesticated. I really believe that they feel deeply that their purpose and highest satisfaction is to serve a worthy and appreciative human. Even if it is by letting the UPS guy know he’d better not try anything or by being by our sides

The good die young.
