Not unusual at all in the 90s. I am betting quite a few of the people bitching about it don’t have close black friends that they hang with on a daily basis. Performative outrage on Twitter or the AV Club while they are hanging out with their all-white friends in Brooklyn.

As a Black person who likes the show, I don’t need an apology. While I can only speak for me, to me this is some white nonsense. Most sitcoms of that era weren’t diverse, and a lot were set in New York.

That is a huge part of it. I am not a prude, but I can’t imagine what that would have done to me in my formative years.  

He also screws up Lois Lane, an important part of the mythos. We didn’t get the swagger. Amy Adams came across closer to a damsel in distress. She is often an integral part of the story, not just looking wistfully at him and falling.
