Fellowship especially nailed both the big sweeping visuals and the low-key character moments. The other two films tilted more towards the big action scenes (since the plot is ramping up by that point I guess it’s a necessity).

I actually never read the book, but I rewatched Johnathan Demme’s Silence of the Lambs on a whim last week, and would be pretty surprised if someone told me the movie did not live up to Harris’s novel.
The tone IS perfect. LOTS of changes, none seem to hurt it at all.
Good call, man! It took me about 3 days after seeing the first one to realise just how good it was. I realise now that I had approached it with a huge amount of trepidation, fearing a cock-up, but slowly realised that I had absolutely no complaints about it whatsoever. It wasn’t until that sink in that the movie…
I would wholeheartedly disagree. Some installments captured the plot and world but missed the spirit (1&2), some nailed the tone and spirit but changed/deletes large bits of plot (3), one just failed on all levels (4), and some were fairly good, but still far from perfect (5-7.2). They tried, and I would say they…
In genre, Hayao Miyazaki’s Howl’s Moving Castle. And yes, I’m saying this even though it took considerable liberties with Diana Wynne Jones’ wonderful novel, because it nailed the book’s glorious melancholy. Hard. Also extra points because both Miyazaki and Wynne Jones respect genuinely strong (but complex) women,…
John Carpenter’s The Thing, while it is a remake of The Thing From Another World, is technically based on the novella Who Goes There? It’s also one of my top three favorite horror movies.
I really hope they make an Egon bust or plaque.
Heh, just went on a short rant wishing they had just made this one a sequel situated in a new city with a new branch of the Ghostbusters business...
Maybe they are ghosts and come back to warn the new generation. That may be neat.
I sincerely hope I live in a world kind enough to give me a Bladerunner-esque film from the creator of Moon.
Jones has often said that Moon was his answer to films like Silent Running and Outland, and that Mute was his answer to Bladerunner.
It would be interesting to see how Earth is from that universe considering all the shenanigans that went on at the Moon. Sounds like it might have a gritty Bladerunner feel to it.
Don’t care one bit about the game. All I wanted to know is if you could remove the builds from the base and/or build able in the first place.
I totally dig where Moranis is coming from- but, yeah, there are many of us that would stand up and cheer if he just did a used-car-lot commercial or a Reading-Is-Fundamental PSA.
Even if Mr. Moraines doesn’t want to ‘be in the movie’ maybe they can convince him to do a voice over, be a person calling into get ghost service or a radio host, they could then just have him record a line over the phone.
Well, Moranis is voluntarily out of the game. Not sure he’s all that willing to come back. That said, c’mon, Rick! They can fly you in for a day to shoot a cameo. Principal photography is wrapped, anyway. It won’t be anything intensive. Just say something to the camera and smile.
Just drop the Xenomorphs off on Pandora so we can have Aliens vs Avatar
