I can see how it might seem that way if one has reductive views on how romance works, sure.

You’re totally right, and unfortunately, I couldn’t correct that mistake once I realized my error. I should have used the proper pronouns, sorry.

Okay, well, that is good to know! Glad to hear it still resonates.

That was THE prime example I was thinking of most.

Yeah, I also got the same sense that he... just doesn’t look at fictional characters in a truly human way, apparently, so that’s why I responded to you, instead.

All fair points, and I can better see why Linda’s style rubs people the wrong way. I may have been overstating things to compare to Honest Trailers or Pitch Meeting; a better comparison would be a comedy roast.

True, but they could also just say that the High Evolutionary modified her to look less like her native species and more like humans or something (and thus, more like her comic book self).

Not to mention the design of her costume really evokes Spider-Man from that angle. Wonder if they’re intentionally trying to fool non-comic nerds?

Exactly! It’s like your own version of Honest Trailers, or Pitch Meeting, or something. Just meant to be breezy fun. I see you!

I didn’t read naysaying. I read the words of a real human being who’s not as interested in this stuff as her audience is, so (being unable to get out of the assignment) is trying to be both witty and as transparent as possible about where she’s coming from while grappling with how none of this stuff jives with her

I am in full agreement. Individual movies are not the same thing as individual TV episodes and really shouldn’t be treated as such.

Yeah, that’s a good point. We really are in unprecedented territory here, and who knows, there might come some things down the line that do reinvigorate the MCU the way that people with my kind of viewpoint hope for. I would absolutely love for that to happen.

Yeah, I’m with you. Recognizing that copies of a character are, psychologically-speaking, functionally separate characters (no matter how much they might share the same personality) is not only a basic facet of many a time travel-story, but also cloning stories. Fictional characters are at their best when they reflect

I would be so happy if they did that. Drax’s story being completed without him interacting with his daughter would be as big of a missed opportunity as, say, introducing Adam Warlock after Thanos was already dead!

(Grabs the popcorn)

People need to lighten up. Your Marvel trailer recaps are like a comedy roast, and those are just meant to be taken as funny, not as serious texts of important criticism.

Well, great. Now you’ve given them ideas!

So you mean, when examples like “Anson Mount returns as Black Bolt in Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness!” become the norm?

To me the whole fanservice thing is a non issue as long as the story told is enjoyable.

Yes, I’d agree that how we judge superhero movies now has evolved from where we were even ten years ago (the phase 1 MCU movies feel charmingly quaint now, which is hilarious because even around that time, people were saying the same thing about the early X-Men movies. Time truly marches on).
