Literally every aspect of corporate finance is not accessible to ordinary people. This is not specific to GM. Furthermore it doesn’t make the union’s messaging correct in their advertisement.

The ad is misleading simply because it refers to the bailout as a gift and not a loan. Even if that loan was generous and interest free, if the company pays it back than the cost was not $10B but rather the interest on that loan, a fraction of the amount. Running the interest lost vs tax gain on having GM Canada…
Elon going to buy this one too and turn it into the great car factory on the face of the earth. OMG TESLA 4EVA ELON IS A GENIUS I LOVE HIM
Feel like they intentionally make it a packaging mess so you cant tell how far forward the engine is. The center of mass of that engine is probably a millimeter behind the rear axle.
Also how bout the balls on that CRV driver just passing a cop like no big deal.
So they made a tunnel. Innovative.
I used to work in that beloved Lordstown plant. It had a reputation for shit quality and an overly aggressive, extremely corrupt UAW chapter. That plant had been reduced from 3 to 1 shift over the past couple years. It should be no surprise at all to anyone working there that it finally was idled.
Neutral: No one failed. Markets change, companies react. GM is a company obligated to making money for its shareholders, not to provide jobs for US citizens. The financial assistance that was provided during the 2008 bailout was paid off like 3 years ago. Furthermore if we don’t want to bail them out again we should…
As a former GM employee at the Lordstown complex that closed I can say confidently that this is just business. The reason GM required bailouts in 2008 is cause they didn’t take these sort of actions to control cost and capacity. Sure profits are high now but GM is acknowledging that this wont last forever and taking…
Get at me Volvo. Headlights are mine now
I am floored

As a formal employee at the general i can’t tell you how amazingly perfect this article is. This is so correct it is beyond belief.
Since Toyota’s wildly successful implementation thousands of companies have attempted to employ lean strategies and most have failed.
BMW hasn’t made a truly pretty car in a good while now. The new Z4 isn’t bucking that trend however it also isn’t horrible looking either. It just looks like a generic video game 2 seat roadster.. with bmw badges on it.
This article is such a pedantic waste of time. Feeling the need to set the story straight about the legacy of a dead man. You don’t have to agree with everything he did to acknowledge that he dedicated a significant portion of his life to this country and appreciate him just for that.
Just an FYI to the world. This statement isn’t true. Most of the american automakers assembly plants do remain in the US. They do have plants in Canada and Mexico, the same way they have plants across the globe, however the majority of US vehicles are in fact produced in the US.
Anyone else feel like this is another PR stunt?
I feel this is a classic issue with american carmakers. The self fulfilling prophecy when it comes to car sales. They think sedans or wagons wont sell well so they put zero effort into producing or selling a quality product and as a result don’t sell any.
No one who is crazy thinks they are crazy
