He fucking knew who I was. There were maybe 5 black guys in the whole fucking building. And as I said, no, I wasn’t really mad at him since it was my fault for not having an ID.

Yeah, so I’ve said several times below that there was no reason they needed so many security guards nor was there any reason for them to manhandle him.

First let me say, I probably could have stated that better. Obviously their response, calling 4 officers and put hands on this kid was excessive. I didn’t intend to imply that their response was appropriate.

Obviously the 4 cops and putting hands on the guy was unnecessary.

The question I have is how did they approach him if they treated him like a threat from jump then it’s their fault for needlessly escalating the situation. Four cops?

I mean honestly... this is kind of the student’s fault. I lived in the NYU dorms two different summer when I was an intern and the campus security at NYC schools is like this and totally nuts. I remember the first year I lived there, I didn’t bother getting an NYU ID (...cause... fuck that noise) the same security…

It has nothing to do with him being a white or a man.  If you were arrested tomorrow and the news story said that the previous actions included smearing feces on the wall of the place where you lived, I would say “she doesn’t seemed to have been in control of her mental faculties”

I don’t understand why it is that observing that someone is not behaving rationally is interpreted as some sort of defense or sympathetic interpretation of their actions.

i mean it seems like his mental health was declining from being trapped in there. These are all behaviors that one might witness in inmates, particularly someone kept in solitary confinement.
