Right so if you know this is something that regularly happens, why are you mad at me for saying it’s not a crime?

I’m not defending the cop. I just don’t put any credence in these nusance labels since it came to my attention they are just arbitrary labels anyone can get placed on them.

So, I’ve been commenting here for years, genius. Just because you don’t happen to agree on this particular occasion doesn’t make me a troll.

The main difference is who the bribes are being paid to”

no seriously, this really is standard practice. Look at Jared Kushner everyone knows if you have the money your parents can cut a check and get you into any school.

Now y’all stealing my material and I don’t even get a credit.

So I read these links. They basically said what I already knew to be the case, it is possible for bribery to be a crime.

well.. both i guess. I read what they’re charged with and that Singer plead guilty. I will even agree that what took place with the charity seems to be money laundering. That doesn’t mean that I have to agree that the underlying activity was actually criminal. People are charged with things that actually turn out not

Just because someone disagrees with you, that doesn’t make them a troll.

it’s not illegal to bribe people (unless they’re a government official). conspiracy and mail fraud are predicated on their being an underlying crime. honest services seems like it’s only illegal for the test administrators and... the money laundering does seem to be an actual crime, there was some sort of fraudulent ch

Yeah... no... Some scholarships are funded by the government. But the people who have the money to buy their way int universities typically aren’t struggling to then figure out how to pay for their tuition.

Yeah I’m pretty sure that’s not true.  And also that it is not crime.

yes i understand but most of those charges are predicated on their being an underlying crime, ie: racketeering, wire fraud, mail fraud, etc.

Though I understand there was a fake charity involved, which seem to be the source of a lot of the criminality. Basically the problem is this dude should have just admitted what

oh OK.  I guess the charity part is illegal..

ok. ok. But what part is actually illegal? I mean... it’s not illegal to cheat of the SATs or pay someone a “bribe” to let you join a country club or whatever.

I still don’t understand what part of this was illegal.

It’s that guy? Seriously? What happened the Bugle Boy was already taken?

Back in my day they called this a donation and the school named something after you as a result as well as letting your kid in. My high school didn’t have a tree, a stick, a mud patch or dumpster without a little bronze plaque in loving memory of some benevolent benefactor.
