If you are a low data user, Fi is better than most alternatives. I would say the cut-off is like 2-3GB. Anything above that, there are way better options. 

Strange that they would roll this out without the carrier switching feature. I also don’t know what has really changed. I put my Fi sim card in my wife’s iPhone about 2 years ago and it worked fine, so what’s different now?

Agreed, if they are truly not paid a living wage, then it’s on the hotel to increase their wages. If that means that the hotel costs slightly more per night then so be it.
