I would have straight up told the PO he’s a total idiot if that was the reason for putting it there. He could have still sold it for a nice chunk of cash to someone who would have been willing to fix it.

All I know is that info came from a pretty reliable source in the VW community. He was the told the car wouldn’t pass smog, so the owner “donated the car”.

Well Jamie has done some work for VWoA and that gave him some clout to save the car that others couldn’t bring to bear on the situation.

For an electric car, yes

I think this is the car you are thinking of. The guy who let this car was a water engineer in Half Moon Bay, CA. Someone tracked him down from the Harlequin registry and an article in SF Gate. Word was he let the car go to the yard because it wouldn’t pass emmissions, and was ticked that someone had tracked him down

There is so much to the story on his car that this article can’t get in one blog post. For one thing a dozen people tried to save this car from the yard and were met with a brick wall. It took someone with some ties to VWoA to get them to budge. By that time the vultures had decendended and ppl on FB were bragging

I find it hilarious that 90% of the the replies here bitching about what I said, all seem to center around the word “Mustang” that I put in my original post. Which in all honesty was a throw away pick and the first thing that came into my head looking for an “insert performance car here”. Had I put BMW M4 in that

He seems to think that a Volvo buyer would say, “Fuck it, I want a Mustang instead.” Ever.

You didn’t say anything. All you did was complain about technological progress and started yelling at it to get off your yard.

Boy.. you people sure get hung up on the Mustang thing.... Ok since the S60 Polestar was around $60k and I’m sure this is going to be every bit of that or more since “batteries”, replace Mustang with a CTS-V, or a C63 AMG, or an M4, or whatever.... Point is it’s not going to be an all ELECTRIC Volvo.

....it would be a great starting point for an environmentally friendly performance model.

That’s why I said it.... And for $60k, nope sure didn’t. Got my mother into a C30 Polestar for a hot minute, until she traded it in.

I’ll add this solidly to the “MEH” catagory.

Volvo: Let’s be new different and forward thinking. Lets make an all electric performance car.
Me: Think I’ll go buy a Mustang.

Now if you told me me there were making an inline 6 direct inject turbo with a 6spd manual. You’d have my interest.

Flight engineers had to have pilot qualifications and be able to take one of the front two seats if the need arose. I have a friend who was a flight engineer for many years.

Doesn’t really matter to me. I don’t think this car is good looking in the least. It’s over hyped like the LFA was. It has an overly complicated hybrid drivetrain. Now likely an automatic transmission. All with an estimated price approaching $90k.

Perhaps long financing terms are simply indicative of the fact that the average car/truck costs as much or more than than a home did 30 years ago. Yeah I know, inflation, blah blah blah, but also factor in that we just came out of a huge recession and that wages have stagnated for years now and there you are.

Plus the

I don’t even consider this stance. I’ve always called this cambered or extreme camber. Stance was always meant to emulate a racecars stance. So basically lowered, as time has gone on like anything on the internet it’s gotten distorted and lumped with other junk like this. Back in the day my Jetta and my Golf would

I thought that 84s, swangas, elbows, or whatever the hell you call them were the “next” dumb car fad.

OMG.. these commercials kill my soul. Humanity is totally lost and heading for the autonomous mobile egg-mobile. These commercials are as bad as the VW “Kid:Is it fast... Teenager:Is it fast... Adult w/baby in backpack: Is it safe..” commercial.

Really, how many people are we really talking about. A few dozen? a couple hundred? In a country of 323Million people, how many people making noise does it take before the internet turns it into “All these racist people are attacking the Japanese Indy 500 winner”?
