Yeah. But the simple fact Masi didn’t think it worth the extra literally five seconds to at least let RIC and STR join the rear of the pack (forget Mick, nobody would have even noticed) is at the heart of at least 80% of the outrage. Dumb, dumb move.

As well they should have. Which is why the initial call by Masi is what’s going to be his downfall (assuming - and that’s a big “if” - he actually takes a fall for this).

You know...for all my dislike of Hamilton, even after Silverstone, “dirty” isn’t a word I’d use to describe him. If anything, Prost may have actually been dirtier, if not necessarily for on-track antics than for his conniving ways away from it.

One step further - just stop hiring past drivers, period. They all carry innate biases - it’s natural. Hire people who haven’t watched a day of F1 in their lives, have them study the sport from the rulebook point of view and apply the rules with all emotions removed (as much as possible).

Easy solution - stop hiring past F1 drivers as stewards.

I would also not allow team bosses to contact me during a race.

If memory serves, when Bono asked Lewis about his choice of tires if a SC was to occur, he brought up hards and mediums. Lewis didn’t have a set of softs left. It might have actually made a difference with the cars considerably lighter than at the beginning of the race, so we might have actually seen a true five-lap

Yeah. I can justify and argue in favor of what happened being okay(ish), but it wasn’t, shall we say, the most graceful of decisions. Of course, had Masi just let RIC, STR and MSC overtake, as they weren’t far behind the five that did (especially the first two), 80% of this debacle could have been avoided altogether.

And that’s the portion of the rules that was superseded by the following one that said that the SC can peel in when it’s safe to do.

The title wouldn’t have been decided under a safety car. Before the safety car, the race was over.

Of course they did. Which is why he may not actually end up falling, as he delivered.

Yeah, I was thinking of (and misinterpreting) the free pass/lucky dog rule.

I assume you’re talking about my Option 1. At the very least, he could have made the announcement earlier and allowed them to pass once it was safe to do so. If it only became safe when the five were actually allowed to pass, that essentially turned Option 1 into 1a.

Do they? I’m kinda getting conflicting info here. And Googling it is completely useless right now, because all I get is F1 articles.

1. The SC usually takes around 5 laps to clear. Did the marshalls do a great job? Sure. But it’s still suspect given typical SC times.

While Latifi’s car was cleared away, the lapped cars should have been allowed to rejoin at the back of the pack, as always.

OK, sure. Point is, both are allowed.

Well, that and the safety car not doing another lap, which is pretty clearly set out in the rules as being required.

There should have only been Option 3, given the length of time it usually takes for a SC to clear.

Eh. They’re all whiny babies these days. Some more so than others.
