This “I’m too beautiful” thing strikes me as being very like when a public figure of any kind, let’s say an actor for congruency’s sake, who was born to famous parents, is asked if they think the well-known name hurt them or helped them in their career.

“He’s a very typical young man his age”

...and a broader vocabulary - how many people you think had to look up “conflate” before deciding whether to support/reject this new categorization ;p

Don’t stop.

And a lot of so-called sanctuaries are basically just collections of exotic pets that people found a way to get other people to fund, by claiming to be a sanctuary.

Yes, just like Seaworld. It is all about the conservation. Even if we accept your premise that zoos do engage in conservation efforts, it can still be true that zoos are exploitive and far from the best means to promote conservation. Sanctuaries and wildlife preserves are also able to promote conservation of a

Maybe so, but it’s not like all zoos are equally ethical or focused on animal welfare. Some are great, some are not.

They come from a long tradition of brutal exploitation, so many people do not trust this new raison d’etre.

Modern Journalism Economics: 1. an entity publishes article that isn’t accurate and doesn’t contribute a single thing to the world 2. another entity refutes article producing a second unnecessary article 3. a 3rd entity hits copy and paste on 2nd article while adding a few sentences and links. 4. Profit

I’m 29 and have several publishing credits on music blogs (granted, in the metal genre... but then, Grimes apparently lists metal and industrial as influences, so it might reasonably be expected that what I’m about to say shouldn’t be the case)... and I’ve only ever heard her name. Couldn’t name a single song she’s

I cannot believe you don’t know about Bob and his lute. Sheesh.

But they might introduce them as “reality star X” or “X, from X Reality Show.” A journalist should write a story that speaks to readers at all levels of awareness of the topic — that was one of the first lessons I learned in journalism school. Identifying her as a “Canadian singer/songwriter” wouldn’t have hurt anyone

Now playing

Also, Bjork was originally in excellent The Sugarcubes:

I’m not it’s just your perception.

They can take two seconds to say who she is. I read the blog a lot and have never seen an article about her. They could literally make someone up, say “Bob” and I’d go “Who’s bob?” and people who have no idea who Bob is would then mock me for not using Google or having knowledge that Bob is the foremost lute player on

Exactly

Evidently no one of consequence. I’m assuming those over a certain age (30ish) aren’t expected to be aware of whomever she is.

Kind of like that. Like the OP, I had no idea who she was. Thanks for the example.

Perhaps Jezebel could spend 10 seconds writing an introduction of the subject of their articles.

Who is “Grimes”?
