I think that no developer or any normal human being hires someone knowing they will be harassed. But I guess video games reached the same low as movie stars or singers where super fans are just creepy by default.

TBH, if you aren’t going to keep the boxes, you’re better off to just transfer everything onto a hard drive. Compared to video games, movies don’t have much options in term of DRMs so their only tie to physical media is their nice box sets. If you throw those away, you are just left with some plastic.
