I disagree. I read her as saying “White privilege is horrible and oppressive and a system built upon the suffering of Black people. It isn’t something that is learned by some white people (and not others). It is inherited by all white people.” Which is a super accurate thing to say.

Hate to tell you, but in areas of naturally darker skin tone...the preference for lighter tones goes much farther back in history than when white colonialism hit them.

well said. I also think that too many white people are isolated from this kind of feedback, so when they hear it they freak out. If you, a white person, actually have deep relationships with people of color, you will be familiar with such sentiments and understand what is actually being said and not personalize it. Or…

On any given day, in any police department in the nation, 15 percent of officers will do the right thing no matter what is happening. 15 percent of officers will abuse their authority at every opportunity. The remaining 70 percent could go either way depending on whom they are working with.
