Sorry, but my first thought was, "yeah, I doubt ol' Rog liked em very bright…"

……"cow"?

Yep. I'd rather be an "unsuccessful" poor who's never hurt anyone than a billionaire who made their money by being a vile, hateful, abusive asshole.

Um, it's not like she was making references to The Walking Dead or Game of Thrones or something. There's no fuckin way HRC doesn't understand The Handmaid's Tale.

Same on all points. On the topic of vigilance, every time someone checks the book out from the library where I work, I'm like, "oh thank god, someone else who will be paranoid and hyper-alert for signs that we're slipping into Gilead!"

Disagree only on Mail Robot, that little droid could TOTALLY work a bonnet

Yeah, I can't remember from the book, but it definitely seems likely to me that what this society defines as "rape" could easily mean consensual sex, except between a handmaid and a man of her own choosing, not the man she's assigned to.

Yup, glad I read that "spoiler." This show is not going to be one where you're like "oh, dang, wish I hadn't known that was coming so I could have been surprised!"

Wow! That's fascinating to me, even though I haven't seen The 100—I'm just really curious as to how a show could have enough of an impact to actually make you rethink life choices. A short story did that to me once, but no other piece of entertainment ever has (and that was because the story was so moving, not because

I know I'm late to the party, but this is such a good point and I hadn't seen anyone else mention it (or thought of it this way myself): "she was an actual woman not a girl and sexy and honest, not so much coy, baby girl like Madeline." Very interesting, I think you're on to something there.

Oh, I wasn't picturing stop-motion! That sounds AMAZING. I wish I'd come across this when I was a kid — I'd have been obsessed with it. All my dollhouses were always populated with tiny animals, never human dolls :)

I'm going to have to check that Cosgrove Hall version out! Sounds wonderful.

Good!

Bowie deserves more than 24 comments, people! Get it together!!

"…holding objects like a human, hugging…"

Oh that's too funny. I'll have to check out that TVTropes page ☺

I did not. Clearly my religious education is sorely lacking!

Exactly…
