“Why, in your brain, is it a somehow invalid or pathetic response to criticise a blanket statement? “

Ooh real mature. This WAS a blanket statement though. Hey Men: Why do you?... Vs Hey Women: Why do you?... seems to yield a different, polar opposite reaction. I’m NOT an MRA, but damn, this is why some people think feminism is so vitriolic.

But the article made a statement about all men. Why, in your brain, is it a somehow invalid or pathetic response to criticise a blanket statement?

Yeah, first it was“SHE WAS DEAD BEFORE SHE EVEN GOT TO JAIL!” until the jail footage was released, then it went to “THE COPS HUNG HER THEMSELVES!”. Now it seems they’re covering all bases with “Even if the independent examiner rules it suicide, THEY MIGHT BE IN ON IT TOO!”.

Also, I don’t think the police officer will actually be found guilty of a crime for excessive force. I also don’t know if he should be, as I don’t have all the details, but the legal protections for officers of the law, which are often very necessary, often tend to protect bad cops along with the good ones.

Legally, no, he’s probably not. Morally, I hope this haunts him. Realistically, I think this will make him worse in his interactions with civilians, especially minorities.

Also, it would not surprise me to see the someone charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle in the state where I practice.

Not murder, but possibly greater damages resulting from the personal injury claim. It’s not actually analogous unless the someone who ran the red light was drunk (over the legal BAC limit), then I could see a local prosecutor charging the someone with murder.

Fantastic news! Thank you for lending your expertise.

My anger wasn’t directed at you, but I should have made that clear. It’s directed at the idea that they’re somehow doing women who seek abortions a favor by creating a little loophole (“the ones whose lives are in danger, well, that’s OK, then”). Women don’t need a loophole, not when we have a law that protects our

No. I don’t believe the person who ran the red light is guilty of anything other than running a red light. Which is consistent with my position on this case, provided Bland either killed herself or was murdered by officers at the station. (If the officer slammed Bland’s head on the ground and she died from that, of

As others have pointed out, he is accused of causing a head injury which may have led to her death. I didn’t know that, and if that’s the case, her death is on him, legally and morally.

It feels like the coverage of this case has consistently conflated what happened at the stop, and what happened at the jail.

I feel like he targeted women - but frankly, this has just fallen off the radar of the news media - so there’s been no more analysis. I’ve been really saddened/disheartened to see no further coverage (who were the other victims who survived?) - not even here on Jez (thanks Jez for covering it today!).

No dispute that violence against women is an under-considered aspect of the larger conversation on guns, but the notion that women are the primary victims of gun homicide is the exact opposite of what’s true:

It's kind of nice that someone can be pro-choice and also acknowledge that abortion can be really sad. it's almost like the world doesn't have to be 100% black and white.

I’m amazed Lena Dunhams poor, bedraggled iPhone hasn’t committed iSuicide yet. Having to listen to her awful Dunpinions all fucking day and night would suck and blow.

Can someone get Dunham to STFU?

There Will Never Be Another Ronda Rousey.

Wtf on the professional Instragram photo of Lena running. Such a try hard!
