You realize that by effectively writing about the virtues of this car, you are increasing the number of people who want one, driving availability down and prices up, correct? I didn’t even know these existed, but now I kind of want one.

Great article, I am slowly growing in my enthusiasm for the inevitable take over of electric vehicle overlords. I am trying to determine which feature will make this a “Holy Grail” when you write an article about purchasing a 2021 model in 2041!
I agree it is a great buy (based on reviews and specs, I have not driven one). A great buy as a classic is kind of the opposite of collectible, which is what the author was asking. I have a Kia and really like it, so I don’t have anything against Kia or Hyundai, but I don’t think they are going to be collectable. I…
The truth is, the vast majority of cars are never going to be collectable (looking at you 4cyl, 4 door sedans), so I am going to give an example of one that probably should be, but won’t be, the Hyundai Veloster N. By most accounts it is a good car, but I think fact that is a Hyundai will keep it from ever getting…
That should be the title of David’s biography.
Yes, came here to say this. Some racing coverage is fine, but it almost seems like a different site on weekends. Weekend coverages needs needs to be as diverse as the weekday coverage. I don’t care much for racing, but I know some people do. I just wonder if those people are the Jalopnik target audience.
When I read the headline, I had not even looked at the picture and immediately thought of the Dart. I actually had hope that Dodge had figured something out with their non performance cars when it first was announced, but it just turned out to be another boring car that anyone with any sense would purchase a used…
As a teenager, I had a friend who had a Type 4 wagon. He decided to make it a convertible by cutting off the top with a saws all. It did not go well. This is where I learned about structural rigidity. If I am not mistaken, he ended up getting someone to weld it back on later, but I don’t think the car was ever the…
The VW had the gas cap at the bottom of the C pillar, but it looks like this has filler door. Did they really have that, or did someone screw up the art work?
There are not many Chevettes left. I assume there are probably even less manual Chevettes left. However, no one cares, because they were terrible vehicles. We all love you, David, but the list of people who give a tinker’s damn about these 90's jeeps is very short (possibly only one person, but who knows).
As teen who knew enough about cars to be dangerous, I added octane boost to my VW beetle and it helped the performance. If a little was good, more was better, right? I kept adding more, until I blew a spark plug out of the head and completely striped the threads.
I was surprised when I saw on Instagram that you had not replaced the fan with an electric. Easy increase in power and it is quieter.
I just sold a 1996 Jayco for 1/2 that that was in good condition. This is a ND. First, there is no AC, that cuts the value by a lot in most areas in the south. Second, all the vinyl and rubber starts getting hard at this age, and if the leaks have not started they soon will. Plastic parts and wood become brittle and…
Honestly? Anything made recently. Manuals used to perform better and have better fuel economy. That was the main reason gear heads went to them. Neither of those are true anymore. The remaining preference of manuals is just nostalgia.
Did you all forget these existed?
This is the correct answer (source: Father of twin 17 year old boys sharing a 2015 Kia Forte sedan). Could have been cheaper, but wanted something to last through college. Electronic stability control and airbags are key features for teen drivers.
All of these were wrapped around trees. My sister and I took out 2 of them (I had a hatch back and she had a coupe). They were relatively fun to drive, but the rear ends were light on them.
There is probably a deeper lesson there about how we view people in general. So often, we see people as “the other side” of an argument, instead of seeing them as a person, just as complex and just as screwed up as we are. Everyone has a story of how they got to where they are.
I live in the area where this dealership is. They are known for preying on people with bad credit. One of their ad slogans is “We own the bank!”. They are a bigger used car dealer than new car dealer. They have always seemed sketchy to me.
I live in the area. They advertise “We own the bank!” so they are likely financing these in house. They are part of a huge dealership network in the Knoxville area (or used to be). They are known for taking advantage of people with bad credit.
