JFK is controlled by takeoff/landing “slots” in a way similar to AMS. AMS is trying to reduce the number of slots overall and kicking out Jetblue, which further concentrates the slot holding percentages towards Delta/KLM.

Just to add to this, electricity isn’t cheap everywhere. My electric bill doubled recently and I am paying $0.45/kWh which makes the calculation a lot harder. Electricity rates are out of my control and at the whim of the provider. Gas cost is generally pretty even within a few hundred miles of where I live.
