Basically this. I’ve seen loads of F-250s towing horse trailers and boats, but most F150s I see are pulling uhauls, jet skies, and trailers, and are likely going 50 miles or less, round trip

There’s no easy way to fix this. The American pickup truck market is driven by feature inflation; everybody likes to think they could tow 10 tons over an epic series of mountain passes, even though they actually drive one occupant for a few miles along nicely paved roads. Those aspirations determine the size and shape…
The real answer here is that if you tow larger trailers longer distances, this probably isn’t the truck for you (though the Hybrid F-150 probably is).
But the reality is that for the *three quarters of a million* F-150s sold last year, there’s an incredibly large number of owners that don’t tow anything, or tow very…
the real surprise is the pricing. $40K for an *F150* that has 200+ miles of range and is electric?
For most of the country there is plenty of fair weather to use an e-bike that can offset usage of much larger, heavier vehicles that use way too much energy of any kind to move a single human around. If I were working out of my office still I could have taken a bike to work and back all week as the weather forecast…
This is the “earther” section of gizmodo, not jalopnik...
You got it 100% right. There’s going to be an incredible revolution on many job sites. The companies that need local fleet trucks are only going to look at whether or not this truck meets minimum requirements and the total cost of ownership. They won’t give a damn that employee Billy Bob can’t tow his boat to the lake…
The one you want actually want is going to be $55-60K. The $40K one is going to be for the power company guys to drive around looking at poles, in plain white, black vinyl bench seat with no air conditioning. Probably not THAT stripped, but probably not far from it.
This would be a badass truck for a local construction company. You wouldn’t need any insane range, but you have lots of power and room for tools.
Holy shit! This thing is WAY cheaper than I was expecting. I was guessing around $55k-$60k with that mileage. And I heard you can get the 300 mile battery on the base trim. This thing is going to sell FAST. Hopefully Ford can keep dealers from marking these up.
Meh, I drive 600 miles each way everyday, both uphill in the snow with a full truck bed. That range wont work for me........therefore all electric cars are garbage.
Hey Wayne seems like a good dude in my book.
Wayne wants the world to think he’s an outdoorsy guy that loves nature enough to tear it up in a 4x4 and slaughter river beads etc. But, alas, an Outback won’t do anymore. Now at least he has a Wilderness Edition to demonstrate to the world he has enough testosterone to maybe go fuck up some earth somewhere and get…
This is what people don’t get when they start talking about how a Subaru isn’t ACTUALLY as good as <Insert BOF off-roader of choice>. The people who buy and drive Subarus don’t CARE about that. They want something that’s “Adequate” off road the dozen or so times a year that matters and drives exactly like a normal car…
Let me tell you something about this car. There’s a 42 year old dad named Wayne who owns an architectural firm in Asheville who is going to love this. His boys (Bryce and Sebastian) will happily hop in the back on the way to soccer practice. The rear cargo area is perfect for filling up at Whole Foods, and those tie…
Extra weight, different gearing, different aero package, etc. I suspect the biggest part of that equation is the aero package, specifically the front bumper.
“In other words, the two-mode system allows for X-Mode use above 25 mph, whereas the standard system you get on other trims does not.”
Honestly, I spent a good chunk of yesterday underneath the front end of my Impreza, figuring out how to put all the plastic bits back together after an incident with a snow bank last winter.
Look, I’m a big fan of Subaru, I own one, but are we really ok with a ‘serious’ offroader having a CVT?
Oh good, You finally have the resident jeep engineer doing off road vehicle reviews. This makes sense. He should be writing more of these (like maybe his take on that new 4xe Wrangler that’s built on a platform he helped work on). Just thinking out loud.
