Almost everyone in the UK drives a manual car. I don’t know why we do it. I moved overseas and have been driving an automatic for the past 4years and when I go home and rent a car, I’m always surprised and then annoyed at the extra work I’m having to do, with the changing gears.

Ah, I understand. I’ve never heard of that method before for embroidery. I occasionally do it for a running stitch when basting but not often.
