Yeah I don’t get why Kotaku always assumes people are either upgrading or buying something to go alongside their other 12 consoles or whatever. There are plenty of people who purchase consoles and handhelds that haven’t purchased one in 5-10 years or ever, or it’s their kids’ first one. I haven’t owned a handheld

Just bought some stuff on Wii VC recently. Wii U will be raking in cash for years to come. If you think it’s 50 people, it’s more like 50,000.

In the original there were 8 characters comprising 4 classes I believe. I’ve always been a Yoshi fan, and I believe in MK and MK64, Yoshi and Peach had the same stats. You could tell the most drastic difference if you switched back and forth between Bowser and toad. Bowser and Donkey Kong drive waaaay different

While we’re all here drooling... How is Earthbound Beginnings? I’m a big (but not rabid) fan of Earthbound, and a big fan of both RPGs and abstract wackiness, but skipped the Wii U and never heard about Beginnings. I remember hearing good things about Mother 3 and like many grew up with the promise of Earthbound 64

Agreed. I also think the Zelda devs time is better spent adding content to the existing game/narrative/engine/platform as long as it is selling. Distribution is digital so the value proposition for Nintendo is tremendous. Starting on the next project won’t make them any money this year, but milking a fantastic game by

As soon as I read his explanation of the moons, I thought that it sounds a lot like korok seeds and the open world, nonlinear exploration that Breath of the Wild champions. This is going to be fantastic!

Yeah, people that think recent Mario Kart is entirely luck based are just talking about that one race they lost. Statistically, I think rankings on average are very skill-based... which is also why playing more makes it easier to achieve trophies in harder modes and on harder courses. Games that aren’t skill based

Yep, I’m at 98 shrines, 200+ koroks, etc, and haven’t done any divine beasts. I’m glad I followed a friend’s advice and talked to Impa after doing like 30 shrines... and then I took too long before going to the lab, which is also a must before going full open world. I was trying not to do too much, but some stuff is

Or bored kids to do the same in Minecraft...

While we’re here, we might as well also mourn Diddy Kong Racing and Jet Force Gemini...

At that point it makes more sense to just make it a segmented run where you only record/time the chunks of actual gameplay and use saves and retries to optimize everything (with a requirement for consistency - same stats at every load as you had at the last save). It’s a very different kind of undertaking from a real

It took some additional research for me to realize that this is a kickstarter-funded game. This changes my perspective on the review because the criteria for success of a crowd-funded thing is primarily to please the crowd of investors. The review is written as if the game were developed by a typical game developer

I loved Jet Force Gemini and every time I replay it I forget that the game has a big milestone point once you have all the characters together that forces you to return to every planet with different characters in order to rescue every Tribal. Very, very fetch-questy and feels like the game is enforcing 100%

Kirby’s Epic Yarn is great!

I can’t wait to play another Star Fox. Having skipped the Wii U I’m hoping for one on the switch. Also hoping to find a switch, which is currently near impossible (at MSRP anyway).

Power Rangers was one of my favorite as a kid. I was constantly doing karate moves imitating it and got to be a red ranger for Halloween. I remember being amazed by the Green and White Ranger reveals! So epic! Also had the megazord toy that broke apart into the 5 toys. That thing was the best toy ever.

Flashpoint TV show she plays a swat team kinda person - and it’s a fantastic show (I don’t like cop shows, but this one has heart and is all about the psychology and de-escalation... like the Star Trek Next Gen of cop shows, but way more action)

This makes me wonder... if you could hide the game and show only the HUD, would the game still be completely playable? I’m sure some games are at least.

Also while a recorded run for say Speed Demos Archive may involve “luck manipulation” through frequent resets for strategies that only work rarely (rare item drops, repeat critical hits, avoiding random encounters, etc.), a live run attempt streamed over Twitch is more likely to push through to the finish using backup

The high salaries are a part of cost of living in an area, but scarcity and demand are bigger drivers. Places in New York and California are desirable places to live, but they are already pretty full making a good location apartment incredibly expensive. These places also attract the best entertainment, restaurants,
