@GibsonT: The black holes that the LHC could ever conceivably create might at their worst destroy a few delicate sensors and maybe some magnetic field generators.

@ManchuCandidate: It's sad that no one on this show has tried to reference field theory rather than just loop gravity and string.

@Simon DelMonte: You should check out unified/quantum field theory; it's defined by the limits of what we don't know rather than string theory, which simply assumes that what we do know is greater than we think.

@Moziles: The only way to 'prove' any theory is to demonstrate out that the entire universe obeys it at all times, except in very very very few exotic or extreme circumstances (and even those cases have to support the theory without raising more questions).

Longtime fan of the Civilization series, but I played through the demo about a dozen times, read nearly every review online, and it just doesn't sound good to me.

Nuclear bombs kill in a whole lot of ways, but this study seems mostly to deal with medium-to-late term effects of fallout:

The most successful viruses and bacteria are the ones that coexist mutually with their hosts, not the ones that kill them.

I was seriously hoping that this article would help stretch my vision into IR and UV wavelengths. Too bad you can't do anything about biology.

@zav: She's spayed. She still picks the one spot next to the damn wine rack every time (it's been a while since she decided to use a laundry basket though). Tried using puppy pads to cover the spot, but she just tears them up right there and keeps going.

I swear to god, this was my fraternity house sophomore year.

Extremis anyone?

Is my LG Ally going to get Froyo anytime soon? Because my contract AND the manufacturer guarantee that I'll get a year of upgrades from purchase, and I'm still on 2.1 here.

@Krakenstein MK-II: Oh yes. The first thing I thought of was Howl's Moving Castle and the ships from Nausicaa.

I honestly thought that Runaways and Ant-Man were on hold until they finish all of the mainstream "Ultimate" series movies.

@ManchuCandidate: "Voyage of the Damned" as done by Steven Spielberg?

I'd rather build my own gorram box and have control over what I watch and how I watch it. Fuck you Comcast. They're charging me $15 a month for hardware I wouldn't even pay a dollar for. I'm on my fifth box in a single year, simply because they use crap hardware and the hard drive headers break off every few weeks.

@Anekanta - Re-Socialized Killbot: Yeah, my high school library had a 'restricted' books section behind lock and key, sitting right out there with the others. They were ostensibly to be used only for research, and when given signed permission from a teacher in the 'corresponding' discipline.

@artum: Yeah, this is pretty basic. Either a human volunteers to die a horrible death from radiation poisoning, we test it on monkeys, or we just start sending astronauts out of the Van Allen Belt radius and hope for the best.
