Yeah. Other than the connective threads between the original, its Game Boy sequel, and Super Metroid, I’ve regarded the Metroids as basically like the Zeldas: a constant reimagining of the same story, with no seriality. References to past games are more like fan service than actual story. If you catch them, great. If

“The series’ efforts to fill out her backstory and the wider mythos have often felt clunky and unnecessary.”

Agreed.  I think the games would always be wise to keep lore dumps to a minimum.  Mystery is always more interesting than knowing, and here it actually serves a purpose:  The dreadful tone of the games.

I love Metroid but I really don’t like the lore.

I hope no one knows who I am through my kinja account. The last thing my constituents need is more ammunition against their Prime Minister.

It’s a dumb series built around shooting nameless enemies, hunting animals for their skins, taking down forts, and blowing shit up. Personally, I really don’t need it to be more than that.

Not that this is anything new, but Nintendo is sitting on money by not bundling Zero Mission, Samus Returns, Super Metroid, and Fusion and selling it on Switch

This is such a first world complaint. “We have too many things to keep us occupied!”

Came to say this. I for one don’t expect any game that we’re just learning about this week to be out come February.

I’d like to suggest that for every month that has “too many games”, the next reports of a "drought" be delayed by a month.

Twitch chat is a poor litmus test for what a reasonable response is.

120 hours here on a high end PC, loved every minute of it. I’ve been suppressing the urge to play it again, trying to wait for some DLC to hit first. I know it’s trendy to hate on the game, but it was second only to Ghost of Tsushima for me in 2020.

There’s literally no sex in that scene though...  no matter your choice vis a vis player character or choice at clouds...

I’m not sure what you mean by Laszlo being good at bartending. That episode that focused on human bartender Jackie Daytona was pretty solid, though.

I’m also an older millennial, and I also share your lack of understanding. The way my simple monkey brain rationalizes it, no matter how much I love games, I could never dedicate that much time and effort into something like this because I have other things to occupy my time (e.g. full-time job, significant other,

Yeah, it’s stupid. Speedruns themselves are bordering on stupid, but this kinda “no touching your own hands and playing while singing Gregorian chants” is definitely crossed the line. This is like the “if I had that much time on my hands I’d learn to play the piano” type of thing. Like do, literally, ANYTHING else.

This is not me being a wet blanket, more like I don’t understand and I wish to understand, so I hope I do not come across as insensitive.

The only people who have said “space tourism is needed and important” are the people who stand to profit off of space tourism.

Phase 1: Rich assholes barely go into space

This is a dumb take lol. Space tourism does fuck-all for getting us to a ‘space faring’ species.
