Neat car for its time, but nothing special for today’s time and dollars. Today I look at cars like that as cramped, tiring to drive and ready to surprise me with a (yet another) $1000 repair. Very nice car, but easy ND at that price.

That’s my take on VW, too - I swear their marketing approach seemed to be to sell one VW to every American once. They’d get the sale and the buyer would wise up to the fact that “German Engineering” was actually a euphemism for “questionable quality, expensive repairs and low resale”. Now that they’ve sold a car to…
Admittedly I don’t follow the prices of these things or this market, but I gotta think that if you really need a busier like this to tow your whatever, this seems like a lot of truck for $25K. Break it down... 165,000 miles divided by 15 years is 11,000 miles a year. That’s barely 2 cross country round trips per year,…
Also, you can’t buy one of these Tacomas from a northern state without a VERY good look at the frame -- they tend to rust out so badly that Toyota was literally forced to replace thousands and thousands of them due to corrosion. An uninformed buyer could literally be left holding (gingerly) a truck that's ready to…
There’s no AWD option on these trucks. It’s a part-time Hi/Low range system.
Too much money for what seems like a marginal truck. A year ago I sold my nearly identical truck — a 2013 Tacoma TRD Sport V6/6-speed with 50K miles to Carvana for $22500. It was mint and I probably could have gotten a bit more if I tired to sell it privately. But that was peak used-car market.
I would have traded my sister for the truck from “The Fall Guy”, too.
Oh yea! And I’ll add Magnum’s Ferrari 308 since we’re expanding the list.
Just the feeling of needing to wash your hands and get a tetnus shot after visiting any station within .5 miles of a major interstate.
So unhip it’s almost cool! You could but this as a classic for the Cars and Coffees and also not give a crap about driving it as a daily. Pretty much bullet proof motors, easy and cheap to fix stuff (execpt maybe that screen), NP from me.
Child of the 70/80 here, so what we saw on TV and the movie screens made a big impact. The Smokey and the Bandit Trans Am, the Dodge Power Wagon and Camaro Z28 on Simon and Simon, Jim Gardner’s Firebird on The Rockford Files, and yes, I reluctantly admit it -- the A-Team’s van.
Fools and their money, waving adieu to each other...
While GOP congressmen are falling for conspiracy theories about white buses and states like FL are doing everything they can to dumb down the schools, people with amazing minds, ambition, and vision are doing literally super-cool things at the ends of the earth. These guys rock. I hope there are enough people like…
NP for what could be a fun nut-job project. Clean it up a bit, put a safari rack on top, maybe a bull bar with some Hellas and slightly knobby tires and this is the perfect road warrior for the Costco parking lot, a beach trip or a ride to the mountains. I’m in my mid-fifties and I’d play like a dumb teenager with…
This is all just so weird, on so many levels. ND.
To give credit where credit is due, this is a pretty compelling offering. $80K isn’t chump change, but this is a damn nice vehicle at a price competitive with other high-end cars in its class.
Standard rules apply: never buy an out of warranty VW.
Ironically from one the company of one of those conservative types that’s 100% against indoctrinating kids... I guess it’s OK if it’s your own monster that you’re making...
