To be honest, except for Black women in the US, I don’t trust any voters, anywhere. Let’s face it, most people are ill-informed and ignorant and vote for selfish or frivolous reasons (I want to have a beer with this person), or are single-issue voters (will vote for anyone who says they’re against ‘killing baybees’),

Ugh, so much this. I had to have a talk with my mother during Obama’s re-election run that her feeling as if she was being “talked-down to” was not a reason to not like someone, especially of talked-down to really meant spoke eloquently.

RIGHT?!? And like, I’m pretty smart myself, and I prefer our president to be someone who makes me look like a goddamned floor-licking imbecile in comparison.

As a white woman voter in the US, everything you say is 100% true.

I remember when this stupid fucking take came out in 2000 when TIME did this big deal poll about who Americans would rather “have a beer with” and Bush crushed Al Gore on that specific metric. More Americans would rather have a beer with George Bush, who is an alcoholic and should not under any circumstance imbibe

...code for “I don’t like it when people are clearly smarter than me.”

This. I voted for Barack Obama because I believed he wanted the best for everyone, but ALSO because I knew he was at least 50 times smarter than me. You’d think these cretins don’t have much to be proud of, but clearly not so, because what kind of titanic ego thinks “I want someone JUST LIKE ME to have access to the

“I don’t know, I like _____, I just feel like he’s somebody I could have a beer with” is code for “I don’t like it when people are clearly smarter than me.”

Can institutions like incredibly expensive private schools located in some of the wealthiest neighborhoods in NYC change? They charge $50,000 a year for elementary school. I think that they are inherently racist and classist and that they primarily serve as a way for wealthy white people to create a bubble around

But, as a white person, the idea of slavery and police brutality and the legacy of systemic white supremacy really hurts my feelings. Which, in a way makes me the real victim in all this. PoC really need to apologise for making me feel bad and stop bringing it up. /s

LOVED H&R Puff N Stuff! That show was like an acid trip before I even knew what an acid trip felt like. :)

Yep, and that bolsters my misgivings about what social media has done to activism. Pics or it didn’t happen led to “perform it, or you’re canceled.”

Yeah, it sounds like Hallmark Channel’s attempt to cash in on the current movement. All you need to do is throw in ‘Aunt Becky’ in her redemption role as the hot white guys’ older sister/aunt who is a veritable saint and it’s an insta-hit!

Reporting in the book suggests she only speaks English and Slovene fluently.

I think, too, that white people have this urgent need to be recognized as one of the “good ones” and they simply cannot handle quietly doing the work without seeking praise. You want to see a white celebrity who has been showing up without looking for adulation for being a decent human being?

That story doesn’t even sound real. Sounds like Hallmark and Pepsi trying to appeal to the Black demographic.

It’s 2020—a pledge and a post on Facebook won’t cut it anymore.

And They All Come Tumbling Down

When I was an undergraduate at the University of Texas at Austin, there were four statues glorifying the Confederacy

I love the detective work that went into this! Thank you! Also, I’d love to hear what Linda Stokes has to say— she’s gotta have some crazy stories!
