The profession has been beat down in the past 20 years because of the attitude amongst the general public that all we are is skilled at using software. It’s mostly become about fast and cheap too. Good becomes a happy accident as the design process gets short shrift.

In the case of the university where I work, it’s kids paying $60k/year to get an Art degree from a university known for optical engineering and music.
