I actually completely agree. Pre-order bonuses should be one thing and one thing alone; a discount. I think the action of pre-ordering a game is fine, it allows you to support a game you like, but adding incentives past a discount just makes people feel strong-armed into it.

I really don’t think there’s much difference between a yes/no/not yet system and a numerical system. It’s slightly more black and white, but still falls into various pitfalls.
