Every vehicle loses capacity and faces efficiency losses when heavier, gas, diesel, battery, or Mr. Fusion powered.

I think that a structure folded for stiffness will always outperform a flat piece of similar weight.  If auto manufacturers could simply go thicker to save money and get better performance, they would, but there's 100+ years of R&D that would suggest otherwise.

The doors are not stressed members.  There is zero practical reason for them to be that heavy.
