Yes, that is typically what happens. The sport I’m involved with, a college coach has had a couple of his own kids on his team, effectively keeping open 2 full scholarships for other members of the team.

AND his kid, should he really go to UM, will likely get free tutition for having a parent as a staff member of the football team.
