When I was a teenager and didn’t have a regular income, I did odd jobs and saved up to buy games. Granted, this was during the cartridge and CD era of consoles, but just because one is physical and one is digital shouldn’t have any bearing one it being right or wrong. ‘But I want it and can’t afford it’ shouldn’t be a

No, I wouldn’t. There are seriously no repercussions to pirating and that’s part of the problem. I like the things I like, but I also know that if I don’t monetarily support these things that they will cease to be. If a developer makes the best damn game ever made, but 100% of the people pirate it, guess what? They’re

Are you saying knowingly downloading the 50mb file and illegally playing the game isn’t premeditated? I’m not trying to be adversarial towards you, but if you knowingly obtain an item without compensation, you stole it.

A report published by the United States Department of Justice stated that $2.6 Billion in Federal, state and local taxes are lost due to movie, music, software and video game piracy each year. The pirated materials also causes the loss of 373,375 jobs within the country.

Yeah, because fuck pirates. Except Johnny Depp. He plays a good pirate.

How is piracy not stealing? You are illegally obtaining a product that is post on the market for sale. Just because it’s a digital and not a physical item does not take away from that. You have a team of people putting their effort into a product and you are not compensating them for that. That’s. Stealing. I don’t

So, game pirates can justify their thievery of a game as a homeless man can a bag of potato chips? Anyone can justify anything, but I’m still looking for somebody to actually tail a moral or ethical justification to stealing a video game. (Psst... it’s because there isnt one)

I linked in another comment which has data showing that digital piracy has cost the loss of 375,000 jobs. Keep justifying it as a victimless crime.

Hardware theft and software ‘piracy’ are both theft. Just because one is digital and one is physical doesn’t take away from that fact. Just because people call it piracy when it’s not physical doesn’t magically make it something else. Either way, you’re taking away somebody’s livelihood no matter how you steal.

‘I pirate games because I can.’

If you steal a car, it’s illegal and you’re a thief.

“I pirate large Corp games.”

Yes there is: they’re both robbery.

Bullshit.

“Elephant minus the le”. Exactly.

I HATE the ‘demo’ argument. What if the game is 2-3 hours like Gone Home or To The Moon? Are the pirates going to buy it after they complete it?
