VI is just so dense. Every character and town has a fully fleshed story. Each character has their own musical theme which Uematsu weaved masterfully throughout. I never understood the mass appeal of VII. Maybe it was the first JRPG for people, but having played the earlier FF series, in addition to Sega’s Phantasy Star, I’ve always found it lacking.

Why does 6 seem most natural? They remade both III and IV, gave V an actual stateside release, and now they’ve skipped VI to do VII. VI is like the redheaded stepchild that is actually more talented and beautiful than its more popular siblings.

That’s not a remake, that’s a rerelease or a remaster. FF3 and 4 on the DS were remakes with new graphics, music, translation, etc.

Seriously, VI is SO good. How have we been given complete remakes of both III and IV (in addition to sequels for IV) and all we get with VI is the abomination that was the mobile port?

Maybe this is naive, but I don’t play MMOs. FFXIV might be a truly great game, but unless it is an epic single player game, it’s not really a Final Fantasy game to me.

That’s what I’ve heard. Look to pick it up here soon. But, it’s not a numbered FF game, so I can’t really include it in the same vein as 1-14.

Personally, the series is a parabola. It reached the apex with VI and has been on an decline ever since.
