The problem with the “should” throughout your statements is that it is based on your point of view as a consumer, and not as a manufacturer.

For me, it’s a matter of scale. My current car revs to 6200'ish, and 80 in 6th gear comes in around 3500. That doesn’t bother me toooooo much, but if my redline was only like 5300, then I think I’d worry more about trying to cruise at 3500rpm for long periods of time.
