I guess people just weren't ready for Moochie.
I guess people just weren't ready for Moochie.
It sounds like me and a bunch of your chef friends are telling you the exact same thing, but you don't think it's true for some reason.
I'm clearly marking myself as someone without kids, but I don't see any reason why anyone working in a restaurant should care about making a great meal for a child. I worked in a restaurant for nearly a decade and I'd say from a purely practical standpoint, it's a waste of time and effort to do anything other than…
This was great. More stuff like this, please.
I want to like Transformers: The Last Knight, but I'm not going to be fooled five times into thinking that maybe the upcoming Transformers movie will be good. Four times? Sure. But five? I don't think so.
I'm in Burbank. I'll go get some Dino's for 'ya.
I rewatched Blade last week and it's remarkable how well it holds up. It's got a real scrappy, underdog charm to it that's irresistible. And there's no mistaking this for something in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It actually made me even more annoyed at how homogeneous those films can be, because nearly 20 years…
I watched this last night and I strongly disagree that it feels like just a pale imitation of Coen Brothers classics. I never once found the film to veer into cartoonishness; the whole thing just felt like the heightened reality you'd find in the other films that so clearly are an influence. No, it's not as good as…
Whoops, it was supposed to be White House Down. Fixed it.
He did say that, but he also said except for rare instances where they firmly cross over with the action genre. I definitely think that is the case for Blade. Less so for Iron Man, which I don't feel confident about at all, but at least you can't argue its influence, for better or worse.
It's kind of my feeling with Heat. I don't consider that to be an action movie, exactly, but the action in it is so amazing that it's really hard to not instinctively just think of it as an action movie. I don't feel that way as strongly towards Drive, but it's in the same ballpark for sure.
Yeah, but Drive isn't really an action movie. It was sold as one, but for the purposes of this column I'm not so sure it fits.
You're right, I didn't really reflect any Korean cinema; same goes for the recent rise of surprisingly great DTV action movies like Ninja 2. It's a combination of me either not having seen something or just not thinking it's the right fit, genre-wise. I love The Host but I think it's too much of a mash-up between so…
In reality it probably is gonna be Bourne Supremacy (I'm not really a fan, but in the long run it probably is more influential than Bourne Identity), but like I said, I just wanted to go with some left field choices. And you're right, there's no real defending Torque, although I do think it perfectly captures the…
Yeah that's my thinking as well. That scene alone makes it an action classic, even though I'd argue the film as a whole is more of a crime film than an action film. There's such a fine line with classifying a film as one genre or another, but that's part of what was so fun about coming up with these predictions.
Yeah, with The Raid and Kung Fu Hustle I wasn't sure which year would be appropriate because it's different from their respective home countries and the USA. 2012 was so packed with good action movies that I could easily see it be one of about 6 or 7 choices. I love The World's End and Green Room (my favorite movie of…
Yeah, but it's no Bad Boys II.
Dredd was on the shortlist for sure, and it wouldn't surprise me if it's the choice. But I felt that in the end it's too similar to The Raid, and if you had to pick between the two, it would be The Raid. Act of Valor isn't very good, but I could possibly see it chosen because it's kind of a weird action movie…
This is my favorite ongoing feature here at the AV Club, and since I was really bored for awhile during winter break, I decided to try and predict each upcoming movie that will get discussed. Some picks I feel better about than others, but either way I had fun looking at all the possibilities, and it'll be great to…
I've seen it too and I would say it's the worst movie I've ever seen, comedy or no.
