I feel for your friend. I was exposed to chicken pox at 35 and developed a nasty case of Bell's Palsy that resulted in permanent synkenisia requiring 3 reconstructive surgeries (so far). But worse off is my cousin - her mother was exposed to rubella while pregnant in the early 50's. She was born with cerebral palsy…
