It makes sense that that Galaxy Nexus is as popular as it is. My guess is that a lot of people were like me: got the OG Droid, waited for the next upgrade cycle, got the Galaxy Nexus since it is a powerful, easily hackable phone.

I just recently got back into listening to podcasts. I would also recommend "Stuff you should know", they have interesting topics and good chemistry. Also, I've just started listening to "Skeptics Guide to the Universe" which is a good dose of general sciency news and commentary.

The father doesn't have a glass of scotch in his hand!

And to be clear, many women HAVE heard of Skyrim and many women DO play video games. That does not somehow mean that all women or a majority of women have heard of it.

How does "if you haven't heard of the elder scrolls, you are probably a woman" turn into "women aren't allowed to like the elder scrolls"? So many people are getting offended at a twisted interpretation of what the author wrote. I'm guessing we could put out a poll with two questions and determine his statement is

I find it funny that the language in these is generally gender-neutral, until we get to the one about "looking tired". Then it switches to "might make her feel like her looks awful". I have a feeling that was written with a specific experience in the writer's mind.

Give this one a shot:

If you don't like the practice, don't buy the game. Vote with your wallet. Consider sending them an email or letter explaining WHY you didn't buy their game as well.

I was keying in on this:

It looks like this is only for new customers. You could try calling the number at the bottom of the page for assistance, but the site seems to be clear on $.01 for new customers.

With the amount I use my Droid, I'm ok with spending the money on a smartphone :).

Thanks for the link. It seems like a sufficiently classy move by Samsung and Google. I suspect it wouldn't have been prudent to announce the phone during the days surrounding Jobs' funeral. Hopefully that doesn't mean that the actual launch date is delayed, just the announcement.

I don't know much about the hardware you are talking about, but I can tell you that if you go the Linux route, you are not going to be able to use Netflix (unless you run a virtual machine with windows, which seems counter-productive).

So.. as of this week I am eligible for a new smartphone (goodbye OG Droid, you served me well!). I was looking at getting the Droid Bionic, but was going to wait until the Nexus Prime (or Droid Prime) was announced. As of this morning, I'm reading that they aren't going to announce the Prime next week as was

Yes, I think they are trying to kill their DVD rental service, or at least let it die a slow death apart from the streaming business. DVD rentals are on the way out as broadband become more ubiquitous, and separating it from their streaming service makes sense from that perspective.

I've been looking at that particular phone. What was your last phone and how does it stack up? I'd also be interested to hear how your battery usage seems to be working out if you wouldn't mind reporting back.

It is a price hike in the sense that I've been using their service for quite some time in a way that allows my wife and I to watch different programs at the same time (which was a draw for our choice of Netflix), and now to maintain that same functionality, I would have to buy a more expensive plan. Requiring me to

If you are dissatisfied with the changes in a service, the solution isn't "stop buying it and shut up". My expression of dissatisfaction with the changes in a service is no more "picketing the store front" than your defending the changes is handing out flyers.
