I'm using a Zino HD for my HTPC right now and I couldn't be happier. It depends on your needs though. I opted for just a DVD player (no BluRay), and no TV tuner (since I don't have cable). Your needs may vary. It handles Netflix, Hulu, and Boxee very well with no hiccups.

Windows movie maker is a fairly simple option. I'd say give it a shot.
