If somebody really wants to argue about the capital of New York, you rarely have to worry about their feelings when you prove them wrong. If you are simply stating facts, there is no need to qualify them so long as they are demonstrably true.

In any argument (especially with a loved one) your best bet is to keep all statements about yourself. "I believe" "I feel" "I think" are all good ways to start. That keeps the other person from immediately going on the defensive.
