Yeah, that one confused me too. Also directing nominations for Battle of the Bastards and The Door.
Literally a 50/50 chance of winning Supporting Actress. That’s insane! And awesome.
Right? Also it got 2 noms in Supporting Actor in a Drama, and THREE noms (that’s half the category!) in Supporting Actress in a Drama.
Hey guys. Remember when we used to burn Lebron jerseys 6 years ago? No? Okay.
Oh, is that why Bert is always so cranky with Ernie? Because he’s supposed to be developmentally ahead of him because he’s older?
“The choice to make all the characters straight so far hardly occurred in a cultural vacuum.”
Certainly not, but Star Wars is also, by and large, a relationship-averse series from a major character perspective outside of its only major romantic relationship (which is now over, thanks to events in episode 7) (also I…
Carly Fiorina joins the Cruz campaign just in time to fire all the staff.
The choice to make all the characters straight so far hardly occurred in a cultural vacuum.
This isn’t a single author’s vision. This is a collaborative effort. Fans have been influencing major series forever. See the 19th century serial novel. If you have 400 characters and none of them are queer, that’s weird and kinda boring.
No, you're not. Why should it cheapen a franchise to listen to queer fans? All we want is some acknowledgement outside of Netflix that we're not abnormal, or discomfiting, or a detriment to profits. Straight filmmakers are not going to magically become perfect allies, and we shouldn't be forced to just wait patiently…
UH-huh... fans have no business guiding the development of art, got it. So the Sherlock fans should have left Sir Arthur Conan Doyle alone after the Reichenbach fall?
I fully agree, this is just Poochie diversity, in a universe where there’s only really one important relationship and now one of them is dead. For all we know half the creatures in Mos Eisley were gay but since the story isn’t about that it didn’t matter. If it’s a natural, organic part of the story I’m all for it but…
I agree. While I think it would be terrific for movies that have such an influence on kids to show LGBT characters in a thoughtful way, I am wary of art-by-demand.
Exactly this. GLAAD isn’t getting enough press, so they do a thing about Star Wars specifically, and the media, either because they don’t realize their being manipulated or because they do, take the bait.
It shouldn’t be forced for sure but the asexual nature of Star Wars movies (Poe Dameron aside) kinda makes it easier to include these relationships on screen, no?
I can see where you’re coming from. I remember during the time I was playing World Of Warcraft, there were always calls for Blizzard to include some monument or character in game for whatever the tragedy of the moment was, usually when a natural disaster would occur. Of course if Blizz didn’t then they were soul less…
I tend to agree. While blockbusters should incorporate more diversity (and the new Star Wars has done this in other respects) it seems unfair to put a very specific demand on a particular franchise, especially one where with one notable exception (Han and Leia) the characters have been played largely asexual.
There’s really nothing wrong with it. This is just apparently the place where all of the people who hate Anne Hathaway for no reason have come to congregate.
Scoff if you want, but I still remember when my dad took me to a WWF event as a kid. I couldn't have been more in awe of the spectacle: the lights, the music, the costumes, and of course the incredible athletic displays. I remember my dad holding my close and telling me that if I worked hard, went to the gym…
