Our 2020 Leaf runs fine at minus 20. Range sucks
I was in San Diego last November and was sitting at a restaurant eating breakfast one morning when a guy walked in dressed like one of the Siberian men in that video. He was complaining about how cold it was outside and how he hates this time of the year because his car is absolutely frozen when he first gets in.
It…
EVs can’t handle this weather, so most owners keep them garaged for the winter.
-60F in Minnesota is the record. These folks deal with that on a regular basis. I think the record for Siberia is somewhere around -90F.
Coldest day I went to work last winter was -45C (-51 with windchill). I regularly drive at -40C. My Tundra parks outside with a block heater. Jump in, start truck, let it warm a little just to get the oil, power steering fluid and brake fluid warmed, unplug, and leave.
I think the rhetoric is a bit thick, but after I got my truck (Transformers-era Silverado 2500) I had to pull over and sit for a VERY long time after a older woman MUCH shorter than the hood of my truck surprised the fuck out of me by finishing a pedestrian crossing right in front of me I never knew she started.
Yup. Repealing the Jones act would just lead to foreign ships making these routes that use a flag of convivence so they can treat their employees horribly while paying almost nothing. Is that really a win? I mean, there are probably really good ways to improve the Jones act (maybe softening the US built ship…
A big container ship obviously emits significantly more than a single truck, those things are basically mobile ecological disasters.
Hung from our own yardarms.
The drive they had us on was short. I wish I had more time. But the two hours I did have it it drove fine and handles ok. Its not a sports sedan by any means. But on the short drive we had through the mountains it handled the curves pretty well. I tried to push the Sport trim to the limit and yea it wasn’t having it.
Why can’t automakers and/or automotive journalists find / show us graphs of the power curves of these engines? They all blab all day long about peak hp and peak torque, but say nothing about the area under those power/torque curves. Does the bulk of the power come in sooner in the powerband? Is it a broad protracted…
Came here to say the same thing about the Prowler. There are certainly things that could be criticized about it (as with any car), but a “horror of a machine”? Ugly? Not a chance.
I owned an ‘06 GTO with the manual transmission from new and had it for almost 7 years. It was a truly fun car and I never had any issues with it. I sold it because I wasn’t driving it enough and am still a bit sad about that. However today your insurance will total it if you bend any body part as they are getting…
There’s a scene in Hal Hartely’s underrated genius film ‘Amateur’ where two mob accountants torture a bound man by poking electrical leads into his ears all while discussing what a good deal the Nissan Altima is.
The upsizing of the Altima is what killed the Maxima, once the best full-sized sedan out there. You can’t make two cars that close together in size and performance and expect many people to voluntarily pay $10k more for one of them.
The S2000 driven soft is Scarlett Johannsen after a long day on set — this looked like it was going to be a lot more fun. The S2000 driven hard is Margot Robbie after half a gram of coke and that look in her eyes
At the point of a bayonet I would not buy a vehicle from a dealer who formats their photos like this:
Safe they are, but the v8s aren’t the best things Volvo has ever used. It certainly won’t just grenade, but I pity anyone that has to deal with doing the valve cover gaskets and timing cover. If you don’t do them preventatively, the car will make you do them when the idler pulley seizes and takes part of the timing co…
Consider it reverse snobbery, like the millionaire I know who drives a Honda Fit.
Easy, XC90 V8. You’ve already got the Polestar for fun duties, the Yamaha V8 is relatively reliable because Japanese, and they’re old enough that $20k should be enough to find a good one and even do some preventative maintenance.
