I’d second Jason Isbell and Margo Price’s albums and add “Poor David’s Almanac” by David Rawlings, “The Order of Time” by Valerie June, and, perhaps my overall (not just Americana) album of the year, “The Navigator” by Hurray for the Riff Raff.

Again no Sun Kil Moon! I’m amazed that nobody at the AV Club is listening to Mark Kozelek. It’s ok, I understand that he’s a tough sell, but everything off of Caldo Verde Records is really compelling these past few years and I’m surprised that Mark is flying so far under the radar.

Probably my favourite album of the year, her stuff had never fully clicked with me (Gowns came on my spotify discover and jumping straight from that to her solo stuff like California felt a bit tepid), but Exile really clicked with me.
