This is good advice for a lot of cars. Especially fast cars that you just don't trust people with. Drop the tire off at the shop on the way to work and pick it up on the way home. Otherwise you'd have to schedule an hour it sit and wait while they get you in.

How do the costs on these (both operating and refurbishment) compare to keeping Tarawa or Wasp class ships in service (it seems like they could perform similar roles, and we already have them)?

Not knocking the Expedition, I am more than happy to hear the Ford is continuing to build good products, however, I will happily keep my 11 year old diesel Ford Excursion over any new large SUV on the market. I firmly believe that Ford made a mistake when they stopped building the Excursion.
