This was pitched as a "merger of equals" and it doesn't really seem to have turned out that way. More like Daimler just sucked all the blood out of Chrysler

Guess we will just have to agree to disagree.
There aren't millions of options available for solid front axle vehicles. The only SUVs on sale are the wrangler and G wagen. There are way more IFS options available now.
1) Making them much more expensive, the EPA estimates that 2010-2025 fuel standards will increase the average price of a car by $3,000
That fuel economy standards (CAFE) are ruining modern cars.
They are more expensive because the engine itself is more complex to manufacture - think about the pressure in the fuel injectors, and also because of the emissions system. Urea and PM filters are not cheap tech.
Good point and true. The ROI on something like the Grand Cherokee still isn't that great for someone only keeping the car for 4 years plus you have to factor in the discount rate.
AT PZEVs are different from run of the mill PZEVs. There are no rebates for PZEVs just AT PZEVs (which are plug in electric cars). It is terribly convoluted so I don't blame you for being confused. See the second link - no diesel cars. The reason is so confusing has to do with credits that OEMs use to get for…
Still waiting for you to show me a tax rebate available for buying a diesel PZEV vehicle - hint they don't exist.
Well i'm actually going to put neither in and just ordered the adapter to put a 6.0L LS V8 - I should change my name. But in the cummins vs. 1HD debate, the cummins is much much cheaper in the states (would have to import 1HD from overseas) and there are way more parts.
should be a welcomed ancillary benefit.
I always get depressed when I think about that haha.
Federal gov taxes diesel at 24.4 cents per gallon and Gasoline at 18.4 cents per gallon. States vary in the way they assess fuel excise taxes but diesel is always more expensive than gas. The theory is that trucks that use diesel do more damage to the roads and thus should be taxed more.
It is true, click through your link and select diesel tech and punch in some CA zip codes. There are currently no state level tax rebates available for buying a clean diesel vehicle. Maybe a few counties have rebates that I don't know of. If there are please I'd be interested to learn about them.
There are zero federal tax brakes for buying a diesel vehicle (turbo or not). You also can't get a tax rebate in CA unless you buy and electric or H2 vehicle.
Because diesels have a large up front cost premium and we tax diesel more than gasoline.
My daily driver - because I like seeing over traffic.
don't muck up those pretty red rocker panels!
