OEMs will always be to conservative to offer add ons that are comparable to the aftermarket equivalents. One of the best trucks to date to come off the factory floor was the Hummer H2 with its swing out spare, front and rear receiver hitches, and integrated rock sliders.
I disagree, I think this is awesome!
Front seats are very comfortable and actually a little sporty looking, which I like, though a bench seat would have been more fun (I can't be the only truck guy who hates choosing between dog and girlfriend riding shotgun, right?)
The problem with short hoods is that its makes everything that much harder to work on. I'd take ease of mechanical access and more difficult parking over a short hood.

Agreed, I would be much more OK with the change if they hadn't used fake vent material and just filled that section in with the same plastic painted to match the body.
Fuel taxes are great for taxing the environmental impact of driving but are only OK at approximating road usage/ wear & tear.
