Invest more in women’s sports??? Madness.

It’s not just that the NWSL needs their talent but USSF, too. They play so few friendlies abroad because they can sell out stadiums domestically. If you want to schedule friendlies outside of FIFA windows and still expect to have your marquee players, then you force them to play in the NWSL. As long as USSF subsidizes

Sinclair will overtake Wambach in this tournament—especially with all these handball PKs—and Canada will likely make the quarterfinals, but their most promising talent is still a little young (Fleming and Huitema). I don’t know why it is but they’re a much better team at the Olympics.

Can you believe that was Kerr’s first World Cup goal ever? Kyah Simon was their leading scorer in 2015 and she’s too injured (compared to like Catley or Kennedy who are just injured). They need backflipping, goal scoring Kerr to undo the scoreboard damage their woeful defense will inevitably inflict.

I agree! But I also understand why you’d bide your time behind her and wait for your shot (trophies, the pay). I don’t think any of the keepers will be around for the next cycle, especially if Ellis isn’t the head coach anymore. Or rather they shouldn’t be. We have our own “tall, but how good is she?” keeper waiting

Y’all got this in under the wire. Scotland keeps their arms down and that match is a draw. Will they finish second or third in this group? I have no clue about anything anymore.

As lethargic as the Aussies looked towards the end of their match today, a player like her could’ve injected some energy. Too bad she’s not a defender.

If she was really really good, and not merely good and tall, then I do believe she would’ve been more than content to ride out the Solo years. She could be the starting keeper now, with a gold medal and a World Cup title on her shelf. Hell, their current backup is the same age as Bardsley.

The Aussie backland is terrible. If Italy didn’t get a dozen offside calls, the score wouldn’t have been close.

She’s been not that good as of late (as evidenced by getting benched for the Reign) so I’m not surprised that a keeper error led to a goal. People are high on Australia given Kerr’s talent, but there have been signs all along to maybe pump the brakes on them.

She hurt her hamstring like last week, I think? So I assume they’ll be managing her minutes. I hope we get to see her. Lot of Aussies are banged up.

She’s just tall. Because if she was truly good, she’d be playing for the US. Even during the Solo years.

I guess I’m not that high on them, especially without Marta for at least the first game, but anything could happen. Maybe they’ll play better without her.

They’re so young. People have them as favorites, or maybe second tier favorites, and I just don’t see it. I see them as dark horses with Italy, Spain, and Canada. Good enough to get to the knockout rounds, but past the quarterfinals? I’m not too sure.

I was really pulling for Panama in that playoff, but Banini is legit. She was great for the Spirit.

I’m kinda hoping Norway finds a way to win their group.

Oh that’s bad.

Their goalkeeper situation is as shaky as the US, but Kirby and Parris should be fun to watch. I don’t expect many goals from Jodie Taylor, but maybe she has that Alex Morgan syndrome where she just turns it on for country over club.

I kinda hope they do, but I wouldn’t be surprised. Aren’t they on like a 5 game losing streak?

Yeah, I figured. Be nice if we could delete comments on kinja! That makes too much sense.
