Betting on yourself is one thing, but being the talisman for your team is another kind of pressure. Sam Kerr is 2 years older than Hegerberg, is the face of Aussie football, getting bank from Nike, and if the Matildas wreck shit at this WWC, Sam Kerr is sent into the stratosphere. Hegerberg is practically there

Probably. I waaaaay undercut South Korea but they’re a top 20 team along with Norway and France if you give credit to FIFA’s rankings. Nigeria is in the top 40. This group may not be as straightforward as fans like me are expecting.

The USWNT doesn’t tank. They’ll go out and try to mow down everyone. The problem is Ellis’s gameplan of just scoring more than their opponent. That’ll work against Chile and Thailand. Sweden will be tougher—the US can’t play out a bunker for shit. France way tougher (speedier team). Ellis will have to consider

Germany greatly benefits from winning their group, provided France and the US win theirs (all likely scenarios). They have a very clear path to the semis, and they definitely know how to win (reigning Olympic gold medalists).

I’d be surprised if they make it out of the group stage, but you never know. I don’t expect Norway to lay an egg. Nigeria has won the African Women’s Cup of Nations three times in a row, while South Korea finished 5th in the Women’s Asian Cup. I’d expect Norway, even without Hegerberg, to finish second in that group. C

I still wonder how that match would’ve turned out with both teams at full strength and with the same level of in-season sharpness.

I’m just happy because now Tennis Channel will actually have to show a Rafa match this week (but only because he’s playing Fed).

It makes more strategic sense to skunk the Sweden game, finish second in the group, and be put in the half to potentially face Germany in the quarterfinals (if they top their group). That’s only if you’re worried about the US getting embarrassed by France again this year, though. I think Germany is more frightening

Now playing

I’m glad you guys are covering the World Cup! Thanks.

Naeher if/when that happens:

Idk if I’m laughing or crying right now.

Lol sorry. No Rapinoe family drama that I know of, but it was just a comment on how fucked the ticketing situation is for the WWC.

Damn that is some good bad timing for Bird. It’s sad that she probably won’t sit anywhere near Pinoe’s family if she does go to France.

Probably closer to “FIFA in full CYA mode over the French Fed fucking up WWC ticketing” but ehhh fuck FIFA.

One of the best coaches in the NWSL (I hate him and his team) is a season ticket holder or whatever they call them over there. He was at the match last night.

Hinkle played like dog shit when she was accepting call-ups, didn’t show up when she was called during Pride month because of *her own* politics, and even when she made a camp last year (I think) she didn’t make the roster for friendlies. In terms of play, she has the same problem Lynn Williams does: both look great

Frankly, that’s bullshit. During their relationship there have been moments when neither, one, or both have been on the NT. Krieger and Harris aren’t a package deal just because they’re engaged to be married, but Allie Long probably made the team because she’s besties with Alex Morgan (who can be a fickle star) and

I hate to ask, but if you guys are gonna cover the Women’s World Cup this summer, can you take me (and mrrp) out of the greys? I don’t think there’s been a single woso post where we haven’t commented, and are basically at the whim of other commenters who aren’t grey.
