Meanwhile, one of the world’s best soccer teams just qualified for the Women’s World Cup last night.

Well the MLS kinda does support about half of the NWSL teams and there is one USL affiliated team. A stronger MLS would help in the long run with establishing better facilities and advertising, but that’s only been true for Portland really. But yeah whatever money the NBA loses on WNBA is negligible in the long run

They desperately need better marketing and better leadership. So many miscues are being made because the league refuses to name a commisioner who could make those decisions.

Ehh I don’t think the NWSL should move to a pay model just yet. They have the Lifetime deal for the next few years, the defunct Go90 which is now Yahoo deal, and I think they will have games on ESPN2 next year (as opposed to ESPN News, which was a deal made very late and limited their options). EPSN+ works for

See that’s what gets me, though. DS actually posted about who won the WNBA finals, which had plenty of the same trite, sexist comments that woso articles have. I was happy to read it since I was watching the finals, but at least they covered it. I’m not asking for much, just a nod to one of the best club teams in

It seems like all of the youngsters are injury-prone. Davidson needs a really good rehab program to be WC ready. I wonder if USSF can take care of that since she’s still in college.

Allie Long as a CB cost us the damn Olympics. Ugh. Funny thing is they went to a 3 back yesterday, but of course they were already winning by a lot.

My post got eaten by kinja. I’ve been on this one-woman crusade to get DS to write about the NWSL finals. Granted, it’s not like I’m blowing up their inbox over it plus I’m in the greys so nobody cares, but your first paragraph rang true to me. Here we have a pretty good league with some of the best players in the

I have no clue why so many Terps fans on that site like Durkin and are willing to blame McNair for his own death in order to justify keeping a mediocre coach. It’s absolutely disgusting.

I’m glad the players refused to let this craven idiot ride with them. So now I’ll go hate-read the comments on the Testudo Times article because those similarly craven idiots loved Jockitch’s victim blaming and I hate that they’re also fans/alumni of UMD.

Money. UMD didn’t join the BIG 10 because we were tired of playing Duke and UNC, we joined to make that money. Nobody expects us to win football games, but they’ve only lost one so far (that’ll change tomorrow) and I mean, Under Armour!

A similar injury happened to USWNT midfielder McCall Zerboni (yes, that’s her real name) during a pointless friendly against Chile. She’ll be out for a while, which is unfortunate because the USWNT has their World Cup qualifiers right now and she’s a damn good midfielder.

I like to call that the “Testudo Times wet dream.” The commenters there are usually pretty gross, aren’t afraid to dip into misogyny (over the ESPN report written by Heather Dinich, a long-disliked sportswriter for Terps fans), and LOVE Durkin.

You post about the AFL final but not the NWSL final that had quite possibly the best club team in women’s soccer completely dismantle the returning champs? Deadspin only cares about women’s sports when there’s drama.

You guys actually posted about the WNBA finals and I was pleasantly surprised. But still nothing on the NWSL playoffs, which saw a match moved due to Hurricane Florence, and, for the first time in the league’s history, the winner of championship was also the shield winner. It also had this:

The only curse broken over the weekend was in the NWSL, where the shield winner finally won the championship. This hasn’t happened in the 6 years of the league’s existence and the North Carolina Courage might just be one of the best club teams of all time in women’s soccer. Will Deadspin ever post about that I wonder?

Got kinja’d. Disregard. You’re doing great, Shep.

At this point in the post-baby (don’t call it a) comeback, Osaka on hardcourt will be a much better opponent for Serena than lefty Kerber on grass. Serena has got to like her chances a lot better here. Osaka will make it hard for her, but this is a much more favorable match-up to get to 24.

Bird’s Storm are into the WNBA finals, and, with some good luck in the playoffs, Megan Rapinoe’s Seattle Reign could make the NWSL final. Both are having fantastic seasons at an age most professional athletes would’ve already retired. I can only hope I’m half as supportive of a girlfriend as these two.

this goes out to every apoplectic bro in an RF hat that the cameras loved to linger on last night
