I have the same problem with CFL's, so I got a sharpie, and started writing the date I installed them on the bulb, so when they burn out, I can actually tell if the lifespan claims are correct.

Cost is a fairly large factor in my decision to stick with incandecent, but I have several lamps and fixtures around the house where the bulb is visible or used to hold the shade on, and in my opinion a CFL will not work here. Also as mentioned the warm up period on CFL's is annoying.

There is something to be said about having a savings cushion of a couple thousand. If not, you will have to hit your credit card for that unexpected expense like the car repair, or new water heater. But you are right about saving past a certain threshold is counter productive.

I did solve the problem sort of, on the right of their post, there is a drop down, that has options "All Updates, Most Updates and Only Important" I am not sure how facebook decides what is what, but if you dial it back to Only Important the Yahoo News won't show up. But that might have some unintended side effects…
