Grounding Toomes in a very real setting helped sell him as the villain so much. When you see him as the leader of a gang of crooks, he’s menacing; when you see him as Liz’s suburban dad, he’s terrifying.

The big problem for me with ASM is not just that it’s boring, but it’s a boring version of a film we’ve already seen. It repeats so many beats of the original Raimi film, but in lesser ways. You have Uncle Ben dying again, but in a stupider way. You have a clunkier “with great power comes great responsibility” line.

Also... his motivations are consistent! He tries to break off the fight midway because he sees the thing he wants to steal and that’s more important to him than (muah hah hah hah) beating Spider-Man.

I really, really like that he doesn’t die at the end - he has a showdown with Spider-Man, and Spider-Man carries him away from it. None of the other movies captured the idea that Spider-Man deliberately pulls his punches.

It’s an underappreciated miracle that Homecoming — a film with something like 67 credited screenwriters and an equally long list of corporate sponsors, product placements and continuity-maintaining requirements for both the MCU and Sony’s off-brand Venom-verse pictures managed to be, by and large, really quite good.

There’s a moment (an i know you know which one) where the audience literally gasped. I havent heard that in a LONG time. It was nice.

Spider-Man 2 is better but the Raimi original is probably my nostalgic favourite.

They’re not going to stop until there are 10 sequels...plus two!

It has that Chuck Jones animated magic that makes it so enjoyable too.

Well geez, you could've just submitted a video of it to A.A. Dowd!

I just woke her up and apologized for lying to her, that daddy's description of her performance being "awesome and adorable" were completely subjective, and I couldn't, in good conscious, allow her to continue living life under the mistake belief that my review was to be taken seriously. I informed her that my views

Well put. I always watch this and Charlie Brown.

A wizard did it.

Psh, you're just saying that because she's your daughter! You won't know if she was really adorable until a bunch of strangers on the internet tell you so.

"The expert Karloff managed to convey undeniable disdain for the main character even as he brought his voice to life."

I've never even heard of the two animated Grinch sequels, and have even less desire to see them then I have for the live-action version. How the Grinch Stole Christmas is hands-down the best holiday mainstay, and it stands perfectly, beautifully, untouchably all on its own.

My 6 year old daughter did a glee presentation of the "You're A Mean One", and it was pretty goddamn adorable.

The Lorax gets major points for noting that there's no simple answer to the problem, as closing the factory would mean putting a ton of people out of work.

Yea, verily doth Grinch perform the miracle of feeding the multitudes with endless slices of roast beast.

I refuse to watch the movie but the original animated Christmas special is a holiday tradition in our house. I think I drove my elder siblings crazy when I was little insisting on being read the Grinch and Yertle the Turtle constantly at bedtime.
