Your mother’s name is Martha? My mother’s name is Martha! Let's be friends!

It is odd that in this era of cinematic diversity, no thought was placed into casting a POC as Wonder Woman, particularly given the whitewashing of African-American contributions to the WWI effort that has already been observed in this film.

Guys, is there really a reason to fight so bitterly over this issue when we are all really on the same side? I mean, my mother’s name is Martha; what’s yours?

You mean Bobby Finger?

I understand; I was just pointing out that the claims of the author that a $3.4m opening was successful were misleading given the budget of ghostbusters is much higher then any of Feig’s films and a film that cost 1/18 of what ghostbusters cost to make had a higher Thursday opening.

If the projections were that Ghostbusters would fail to make back even the estimated $244m production & promotional costs, and generate the same Thursday opening figures as a film that cost $10m to make I guess ...

Yes, I am a little unclear as to how a $3.4m Thursday opening for a $180m film can be considered a success when “Purge: Election Day” cost $10m and had a Thursday opening of $3.6m two weeks ago.

A $3.5m Thursday take is actually not that good given the last Transformers movie had $8.75m Thursday take ... which is actually half of what it’s predecessor made on Thursday openings.

So basically a film like Deadpool made more then three times the amount on Thursday opening with less then half the budget. Seems misleading to represent a $3.5m Thursday opening as any indicator of success.

Just as a point of reference, here are some other Thursday openers, keeping in mind Gjostbusters had a 144m budget: Jurassic World (150m budget) made 18.5 million. Deadpool (58m budget) made 12.7 million. Man of Steel (225m budget) made 21 million. Batman V Superman (250m budget) made 27.7 million.

Yes, that sounds like a handy explanation for any and all criticisms directed towards any film containing older actors.

Why, thank you kind sir. Sadly posters like snail-mail-bride2, when confronted with the obvious double standard in their actions, rely on name-calling and dismissing anyone pointing out the logical fallacies in their claims, ironically demonstrating that they are the irrational cry-babies that they like to claim any

Ah yes, name-calling and dismissing anyone pointing out the logical fallacies in your claims - that is the best way to demonstrate that you are not the irrational cry-baby that you suggest any one who criticizes “Ghostbusters” must be.

Wow, you must hate the elderly as well. Why not pay the $12 to see the movie before making any pre-emptive judgements about it based on a trailer?

Where did I state that you ruined my childhood as you implied? And I don’t think it takes a sharp individual to point out that your attempts to wave away the double standards applied in this example compared to “Ghostbusters” with an unsubstantiated assertion that they are all “false equivalences” hold very little

Why do you hate the elderly and feel they should not be equally represented in film? That is after all, the only possible reason you could dislike the casting or the film.

Lol, it is a reference to identical arguments frequently used to support “Ghostbusters” by Jezebel posters in articles like this one: http://paleofuture.gizmodo.com/the-new-ghostb… Intersting to see how quickly people recognize what a stupid argument it is when used in relation to a different movie.

How can you have a negative impression of a film based just on a trailer? I don’t think anyone has a right to judge the film until they have paid their $12 to see it.

I like how writers at Jezebel likes to repeatedly point out that the African American Tyra Banks exaggerated her certificate at Harvard, but still to this day can’t bring themselves to explicitly admit that the Caucasian “Jackie”of the UVA/Rolling Stone lied about her gang rape.
